ICEBERGS EN ISLANDIA

-¡Wow, que hermoso, ¿oiga, lo negro en el hielo es contaminación verdad?, le preguntó una chica al guía a lo que su amiga se adelanto y le dijo -Estúpida, en Islandía no hay contaminación- el guía sonrió sólo afirmó con la cabeza y agregó -Es ceniza volcánica-.

Ese día llegamos temprano al lugar, nos asignaron nuestro trajes especiales, aún con lo que ya llevábamos puesto, debíamos poner un traje por encima y un salvavidas, me sentía astronauta, el traje pesaba pero eran las normas, ibamos a navegar por el lago en un bote inflable con motor tipo zodiac. Lo que comenzabamos a ver era muy distinto a lo que veíamos desde la orilla, ahora estábamos inmersos en el lago Jökulsárlón.

Una de las características más llamativas de Jökulsárlón (el lago glaciar más grande de Islandia) es que se encuentra lleno de icebergs, estos se desprenden de la lengua del glaciar Breiðamerkurjökull. Esto hace que Jökulsárlón sea probablemente el lugar más sencillo para acceder a un iceberg en el mundo. 

Este lago está conectado al mar el cual durante la noche al bajar la marea arrastra grandes hielos a una playa de arena negra creando un escenario sorprendente y único, como de otro planeta.

-WOW, it look so fabulous, that's pollution on the ice right- asked one young woman to our guide but before he answered her friend said -Stupid! didn't you know that there's no pollution in Iceland?- the guide just smiled and added -That's volcanic ashes.

We arrived early that day, so we were the first one to get our special suits first, even with all out outwear, we needed to wear it over and a life vest, I felt like an astronaut, that was quite heavy but those were the rules, we were going on a tour on a zodiac style boat through the icebergs at Jökulsárlón lake.

One of the most attractive features of Jökulsárlón is the amount of icebergs floating on the lake that once were part of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. This make Jökulsárlón one of the best places in the world to see icebergs that close.  

This lake is connected with the sea and during the night the low tide brings ices of all sizes over the black sand beach creating an marvelous and spectacular scenery.
